Sycamores is looking forward to hosting its Celebrating Children Gala on Saturday, March 8th at the iconic Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles. This elegant and meaningful evening will bring together supporters to raise funds for Sycamores’ crucial behavioral health programs, serving both Riverside and Los Angeles Counties, including many impacted by the recent fires.
Guests will enjoy a chef-prepared three-course dinner, live music and exciting auctions, as well as moving stories from individuals whose lives have been transformed through Sycamores’ services.
The highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Sycamores Celebrating Children Award, honoring two outstanding leaders: Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Chair, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and Angela Padilla, President, FundaMental Change.

“In the wake of the devastating Eaton Fire and other wildfires across Los Angeles, this year’s Celebrating Children Gala will be more than just a fundraising event—it will be an opportunity for our community to come together in resilience and hope,” said Debbie Manners, President and CEO of Sycamores. “Supervisor Barger and Angela Padilla exemplify the compassion and leadership needed to make lasting change, and we are honored to recognize their contributions.”
Both honorees have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, dedication, and commitment to improving the lives of children, families, and adults across Los Angeles County.
Supervisor Kathryn Barger has been a tireless advocate for the Fifth District, the largest in Los Angeles County, which spans 20 cities and 83 unincorporated communities. Over 35 years ago, Supervisor Barger began her career as an intern in the office of former Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, rising through the ranks to become his chief deputy in 2001 and ultimately was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2016. Throughout her career, Supervisor Barger has championed vital public safety initiatives and spearheaded efforts to enhance mental health services, preserve open spaces, and improve the quality of life for foster children, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. The Supervisor has also been at the forefront of recovery for cities, businesses, families and individuals impacted by the recent fires.
Angela Padilla, a passionate mental health advocate, draws on her personal experience to raise awareness of mental health challenges. For nearly four decades, Angela’s mother has lived with bipolar and schizoaffective disorders, motivating Angela to earn degrees in psychology and public administration, with a focus on Health Administration. Angela’s unique perspective has driven her to share her family’s journey and raise awareness about mental health challenges. As the Founder and President of FundaMental Change, she continues to be a powerful voice for mental health advocacy in schools, community organizations, and public forums.
The Celebrating Children Gala is co-chaired by Laura Baker and Christina Bang, both residents of La Cañada Flintridge and dedicated Sycamores supporters. Laura Baker, Southern California/Nevada Health Business Leader at Mercer and a Sycamores Board of Directors member, joins Christina Bang, President of Bang Licensing Group, in leading this special event.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Sycamores’ child welfare and behavioral health programs, impacting over 25,000 vulnerable children, youth, and families annually throughout Southern California.
Join us for a memorable night filled with inspiration, celebration, and community.
