California State Senator Caroline Menjivar Visits Sycamores

In July, Sycamores had the privilege of welcoming California State Senator Caroline Menjivar, who represents Burbank and the San Fernando Valley in the 20th Senate District. Her visit provided a unique opportunity to showcase how our Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams (MCOT) play a vital role in supporting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline across Los Angeles County.

During her visit, Senator Menjivar dived deep into understanding our operations – from what happens when we receive crisis calls and the sources of these calls, to the impactful outcomes we achieve.

While most calls to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline are handled over the phone by a trained professional, calls warranting an in-person emergency response in most of Los Angeles County are handled by Sycamores MCOT. In partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, our teams provide timely, compassionate mental health support that includes stabilization, safety planning, transportation to care facilities (when necessary), and connections to critical resources.

We were honored to share with Senator Menjivar the crucial work we do in helping individuals in crisis, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with her in advocating for mental health services in our community – together, we’re making a difference!
